Southwest Michigan At the end of the last Ice Age, the glacial sheet that receded northward left behind the Lake Border Moraine along the Lake Michigan coastline and Valparaiso Moraine that runs parallel to the east. Amongst the hilly moraines, the region is home to marshes, wetlands, and hardwood forests. Most notably, abundant wildflowers and virgin beech-maple forest are on display in Warren Woods State Park as well as miles of dune formations and habitat in Warren Dunes and Gran Mere State Parks. Southwest Michigan is also rich in businesses with a local, sustainable focus that are great to support.
